Really Cheap Textbooks
Most of us probably don’t like to be referred to as really cheap but when you are in the market for textbooks, that may be exactly what you are looking for – really cheap textbooks. Anyone associated with higher education – whether student, professor, administration, parent, politician, textbook publisher, you name it – is certainly well aware of college textbook prices and what a serious issue this is for so many people.
While the powers that be continue to debate, argue, pass laws, whatever, the average college student does not have the luxury of waiting for any reasonable resolution. When the semester starts, you need your textbooks. But how you get them, and what it costs you, does not need to be determined by fate or tradition.
Many methods exist today for college students to search for textbooks, compare textbooks and save considerable money in the process. Not every option involves price – you may have a preference for nice new books, in which case you limit your selection somewhat but you can still look for the best deals on new textbooks.
Generally, however, if you want to find the cheapest textbooks, you probably will need to look at used textbooks. There are a couple of ways that used books can offer an advantage, especially when it comes to lower prices.
For one thing the fact that it is used almost guarantees it will be cheaper than the same book new (although that will depend on the sellers – it is possible someone may have a new textbook for sale at a great discount price while another bookseller may be asking an unusually high price for their used copy).
Secondly, if you only want a new book, you limit your options to the most current edition and formats. Whereas if you search for used textbooks you can consider not only used copies of the current edition but older editions as well. And this second option can deliver you really cheap textbooks. You will need to make sure any older edition is useful for your particular class but often it will be.
